El Capitan State Beach
Join us for Field Day at the beach! We will be running at least 2 HF phone stations, 1 HF digital/CW station, and a weak signal VHF/UHF station. Setup begins on Friday June 22 and operating begins at 11am Saturday June 23 until 11:00 AM the next day. We plan to operate from 80 meters to 23 cm so this is a great chance to operate on a new band or using a new mode.
Where:
We will be operating at El Capitan State Beach, Cabrillo group camp. To get there take Highway 101 west to the El Capitan State Beach turnoff 17 miles west of Santa Barbara. We have reserved the campsite for Thursday, Friday and Saturday night so you can come up on Thursday if you wish. Camping fees are $25/night. The campground has potable water, flush toilets, hot showers (extra charge), and fire pits. The campsite is a group tent camp with plenty of room for tents. If you want to bring an RV talk to Ken W6CPA or Ed KB6THO.
Talk in on 446.000 MHz or on the Santa Barbara repeater 147.000 + PL 131.8.
We will be having our traditional Saturday night potluck dinner. Everyone should bring a side dish and their own drinks. The club will provide the main dish.
Everyone should bring the following items:
Food and Camping gear
Headphones with audio adapter
Flashlight or Lantern
Chair
We are looking for some items for the group. We need batteries and rope. If you could lend us a battery or some rope we would appreciate it. We could also use another easy up shade cover as well.
You are welcome to bring your rig; however, we should have enough rigs for everyone to operate. If you plan to go, we would appreciate it if you could e-mail Ken at w6cpa@ircradio.org to help us plan. It’s no problem if you just want to come up for the day. Any questions? VE Testing:
We will be offering a VE testing session direct after Field Day at 1:00pm on Sunday June 24 at El Capitan Beach, Cabrillo group camp. We will be testing for all elements.
If you are interested in taking a test you need to bring, a picture ID, $14 in check or exact change, a pencil, and a copy of your license if you are upgrading. Should you fail the exam, you may take a different exam for an additional fee of $14. This will be your last chance to take a general exam before the question pool changes.
