Field Day 2018

Independent Radio Club

McGill Campground

June 22, 2018 through June 24, 2018

Join us for the Independent Radio Club Field Day event! We will be running 2 HF phone stations and a VHF/UHF weak signal station. We plan to operate 80M to 70cm. This is a great way to try a new mode or band you haven’t had a chance to operate before. Setup begins on Friday June 22 at 11am and operating begins at 11am Saturday June 23 through 11am Sunday June 24. We have the campsites from Thursday on so you can start camping the day before if you like.

We will be operating in the McGill Campground near Mt. Pinos. To get there take I-5 north, to the Frazier Park exit (Frazier Mountain Park Road), go west approximately 6 miles. The road name changes to Cuddy Valley Road. Continue on it up Mt. Pinos. The road name changes to Mt. Pinos Highway. McGill Campground is approximately 5 miles further on the north side of road. We will be operating in Loop 4.

Talk in on 146.550 MHz and 447.860 MHz - pl 141.3.

We have reserved six campsites. If you would like a site contact Leon and he will set on aside for you (until they are gone). RV’s are permitted with a 40’ size limit. There are no electric and water hookups available and there is no potable water available in camp so make sure to bring plenty. The campground has vault toilets and fire pits. Campsite fees are $25 per night. There is a maximum of six people in a campsite and they charge $10 per night for any extra vehicles. Campfires are allowed in USFS provided fire rings.

We will be having our traditional potluck dinner Saturday night. Everyone should bring a side dish and their own drinks. The club will provide the main course.

Everyone should bring the following items:

  • Food and Camping gear
  • Headphones with audio adapter
  • Flashlight or Lantern
  • Chair
  • Jacket or Warm Clothing for the evening
  • Extra Fuses!!!

You are welcome to bring your rig; however, we should have enough rigs for everyone to operate. If you plan to go, we would appreciate it if you could let us know. E-mail Ken Chafin or mail in the coupon to help us plan. Any questions? E-mail Ken or call him at (818) 957-1699 or call Leon (818) 720-8331.
